Jeremy Renner interview with Diane Sawyer about tragedy and triumph

Jeremy Renner has hunkered down for his first interview since his near-fatal New Year’s Day accident.

Wednesday marked the debut of the trailer for “Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival, and Triumph.” Renner describes being flattened by a snow tractor he was operating on New Year’s Day near his residence in Nevada.

Sawyer asks Renner if he recalls the agony of being driven over by the seven-ton snowcat. Renner responds, “Oh, yes, I was awake the entire time.”

The interview also features poignant moments with Renner’s nephew, whom he attempted to save from being struck by the equipment during the tragedy.

Renner informed Sawyer that he would not alter the outcome.

He said, “Yeah, I’d do it again because it was aimed directly at my nephew.”

Sawyer listed Renner’s injuries, which included eight ribs fractured in 14 places, a broken eye socket, a collapsed lung, and a rib-bone-pierced liver.

The actor now views himself in the mirror as “a fortunate man.”

Renner stated, “I’ve lost a lot of muscle and bone through this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.”

“Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival, and Triumph” will appear on ABC at 10 p.m. ET on April 6 and will be available on Hulu the following day.
