The problem with making a zombie movie in 2021 is that, during the shambling undead craze of the 21st century, no cliché has been left unturned. Snyder’s “spin” is to merge undead horror with a heist movie—something that might have worked had the latter been engineered with more verve. The heist aspects of Army of the Dead are perfunctory and the zombie elements are overly familiar.

 That’s not to say the film is boring, although the unnecessarily long running time gives birth to occasional bouts of tedium. Although trapped in a wave of predictability, Snyder delivers enough gore to keep zombie movie fans happy and enough adrenaline-driven action to maintain a high level of suspense. Despite the apocalyptic elements, the tone is more flippant than in the darker-than-dark DC movies. There’s even an effective father/daughter emotional component for those who want a little bit more.

Antlers

Nick Antosca, who is well-known for “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” C. Henry Chaisson, and Scott Cooper wrote the screenplay for “Antlers,” which Cooper also directed. This comes over two decades after our project, 28 Days Later. When creating 28 Days Later, I drew heavily from the novel Day of the Triffids,” he shared with Alamo Drafthouse.

Untitled Universal Monsters Movie (April 19 – 2024)

From a script by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the upcoming horror movie on Netflix, Universal Monsters. It stars Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud (in a posthumous cinematic cameo), Will Catlett, and Giancarlo Esposito. Universal Pictures will release the picture on April 19, 2024.

Return to Silent Hill: April 26, 2024

Return to Silent Hill, the first new Silent Hill film in almost a decade, will be released in 2024. Return to Silent Hill is based on the iconic video game series, notably Silent Hill 2, and follows James Sunderland (Jeremy Irvine), who returns to the town in pursuit of his lost love after receiving a cryptic letter. Alongside Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw) plays James’s long-lost romantic interest. The film Return to Silent Hill will be released in cinemas on April 26, 2024.

The Watchers June 7, 2024

Ishana Shyamalan, M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, will make her directorial debut with a 2024 horror film. It’s an eagerly anticipated addition to the genre, and horror fans will likely be keeping a keen eye on its release, especially considering the recent surge of the best horror movies on Netflix. The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning as Mina, a teenage artist who is stranded in the woods with three strangers as mysterious monsters follow them. Georgina Campbell from Barbarian is also on the cast list. The Watchers, directed by Ishana Shyamalan, will be released in cinemas on June 7, 2024.

Horrorscope — June 28 2024

In 2024, Jacob Batalon returns to the genre with a new horror movie. Batalon, who co-starred with Tom Holland in the three Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man films, now takes the stage in a film about friends who begin to die according to the fates of their horoscopes. Writers Spenser Cohen (Expend4bles) and Anna Helberg make their directing debuts. The cast of Horrorscope also includes Humberly González, Olwen Fouéré, Alana Boden, and others.

Trap: August 2, 2024

M. Night Shyamalan will also be back in cinemas in 2024 with a new horror movie. There is little information available about Trap, other than the fact that it will be a psychological thriller set during a performance. Based on the history of M. Night Shyamalan’s films, audiences might anticipate a surprise at some point. Warner Bros. has already set the release date for Trap for August 2, 2024, despite the absence of any cast members announcements.

Speak No Evil August 9, 2024

One of the scariest movies of 2024 is an American remake of the Danish film Speak No Evil, which was released in 2022. With its chilling atmosphere and gripping storyline, it’s sure to captivate audiences looking for scary movies to watch on Netflix. James Watkins, who also directed “Shut Up and Dance” on Black Mirror, is in charge of the remake, which tells the story of a family’s weekend rural excursion that turns terrifying. Alien: Romulus (Working Title) (August 16 – 2024)

Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times at the El Royale) feature in Fede lvarez’s film Alien: Romulus. Disney and 20th Century have set the August 16th theatrical release date, but there are no plot details yet.

Beetlejuice 2: September 6, 2024

The long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice, will finally be released in 2024. Fans of the original cult classic and those seeking new horror movies to watch will likely be thrilled to revisit the quirky, supernatural world of Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as the main character, and director Tim Burton has been working on the sequel for over 30 years. Terrifier 3 (October 25 – 2024) 

Terrifier 3 marks the return of Art the Clown in the Terrifier series in 2024. Although plot details remain unknown, Damien Leone, the franchise’s director, has returned to direct the film. The only confirmed cast members for Terrifier 3 are David Howard Thornton as Art and Lauren LaVera as Sienna, who returns from Terrifier 2. While it is clear that the third movie in the series will be released in theaters in 2024, the specific date is unknown.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (February 14 – 2024)

Winnie-the-Poh and the gang return to the Hundred Acre Woods in 2024 for the sequel to the dark, twisted, and violent film Winnie-the-Poh: Blood and Honey. Written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the 2023 sequel to the new horror movie was released. In addition to Tigger and Owl, the following episode will include the reappearance of Christopher Robin, Piglet, and Winnie the Pooh. Unconfirmed reports put the publication of Winnie the Pooh and the sequel, Blood and Honey, in 2024.

Five Nights At Freddy’s (October 27–2023)

Fans of the video game franchise are giddy with anticipation for the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, which was first revealed in 2015. On October 27, 2023, the movie under Emma Tammi’s direction will be available in theaters and on the Peacock streaming service.

The protagonist of the tale is Mike Schmidt, a troubled security guard who works nights at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. But this isn’t your typical pizza joint. Mike quickly finds that the animatronic mascots—Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy—come to life and become cruel after midnight. The cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Monroe, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, and Matthew Lillard as William Afton.

Based on the Scott Cawthon-produced video game franchise, Emma Tammi and Seth Cuddeback wrote the script together. Blumhouse Productions and Scott Cawthon Productions are in charge of producing the movie, which has a $25 million budget. Universal Pictures will distribute it in the United States.

Thanksgiving (November 17 – 2023)

Eli Roth is developing a new Christmas film based on the spoof trailer from the 2007 film Grindhouse. It’s about a serial killer who flies to a community that celebrates Thanksgiving and carves them up like a Thanksgiving turkey. It will feature well-known performers such as Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy), Addison Rae (He’s All That), Rick Hoffman (Suits), and Gina Gershon (Bound).
