Tina Turner had a rough go of it, what with her mother’s absence and all. At the film’s lowest moment, Bassett and her husband get into a violent dispute that leaves her face bloodied and bruised. She decides to get some assistance from a local motel. The act leaves the audience with the impression that loss is on the table. She is not refused service because of her lack of funds. There is hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Bassett should have earned an Oscar for her performance in the Tina Turner biopic. Although she received a nomination, Holly Hunter ended up winning. American Horror Story
Genre | Drama, Horror, Thriller, Anthology |
Release Date (Streaming) | 5-Oct-11 |
Producer | Brad Falchuk, Ryan Murphy, Dante Di Loreto, Alexis Martin Woodall       |
Director | Brad Falchuk, Ryan Murphy |
Writer | Brad Falchuk, Ryan Murphy |
Cast | Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange |
Werewolves were witches, vampires, and ghosts. Bassett gets interesting roles because AHS understands how to write for him. Voodoo Queen Marie Laveu (Jessica Lange) can stand up to the supreme might of Fiona (Marie Laveu). Bassett, in her role as Ramona Royale, rips at the Hotel vampire, who seems to enjoy the blood curse. To Rita Veder, this is a major distinction. Ramona mimics Pam Grier’s performance in blaxploitation films by behaving as if she is unaware that the cameras are not rolling.
“Damn you, Hulu! Free online viewing of all my past movies. Free of charge? She’s weary, campy, and cruel. Bassett’s absence in recent seasons has been noticeable. If only to see her reaction to such a gruesome event, Marie takes photos of a room full of cadaverous witch hunters in a Coven. In Freak Show, Desiree watches as a magician botches a performance and a suspicious woman ends herself sawn in two. The last words from her mouth were, “Steal her jewelry and bury the bitch.”
Although “American Horror Story” was developed by the same people behind “Glee,” the two series couldn’t be more different. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family of three, the Harmons, as they relocate from Boston to Los Angeles in an attempt to heal old wounds. The Harmons have just moved into a haunted home, and they have no idea it is so. However, it is not inhabited by Casper-style benign ghosts, but rather by evil spirits. The animals have a history of not only frightening but also eating the house’s occupants. The family patriarch and psychiatrist Ben could require therapy after spending time here.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Genre | Action, Fantasy, Adventure |
Release Date (Streaming) | 11-Nov-22 |
Producer | Kevin Feige        |
Director | Ryan Coogler |
Writer | Joe Robert Cole, Ryan Coogler |
Cast | Michael B. Jordan, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o |
While T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and King T’Chaka (John Kani) have a strong bond as father and son, Queen Ramonda (Michelle O’Hara) is relegated to the background. Bassett is given further development in Wakanda Forever. Bassett is strong in her role as queen. She enters United Nations conferences with the confidence that comes from knowing she is in charge. She shows no fear in defending her people against the Talokan kingdom’s onslaught. As a mother, she grieves over her son’s death and tries to comfort her daughter, Shuri (Letitia Wright).
The ideal situation is when these two personas become one. When Shuri’s future is unknown, Queen Ramonda experiences a new degree of agony due to the dual roles of parent and guardian that she plays. She announces, “My entire family has been taken away, and I am now the queen of the most powerful nation in the world.” Have I not sacrificed everything?” Is there any chance that the delivery may earn itself an Oscar nomination? The eerie and breathtaking image that is created as Queen Ramonda swims through a flooded palace to rescue the life of an unknown person is the climax of her story arc. Her last moments were courageous, despite the tragedy that they brought.
ER (2008-2009)
Genre | Drama |
Release Date (Streaming) | 25-Sep-08 |
Producer | Constant C Productions |
Co-Producer | Michael Crichton, Christopher Chulack, David Zabel, R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells |
Writer | Michael Crichton |
Cast | George Clooney, Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards, Noah Wyle, Sherry Stringfield |
Cook County General Hospital’s new emergency room chief is Dr. Catherine Banfield. She’s all about the money. When there are people’s lives at stake, there isn’t much time for pleasantries. A fresh actor joining the series during its last season may find it difficult to fit in with the existing cast of such a long-running program. Bassett can handle it. As in the case of “Heal Thyself,” this serves to shed light on Banfield’s history. Just like the viewers at home, her other doctors know very little about her.
Courtney B. Vance, who is Bassett’s real-life husband, plays Banfield’s wife. In the episode, the parents mourn the death of their child. Dr. Banfield’s history and present collide as he struggles with anguish as a patient’s life hangs in the balance. Bassett, like the first episode of 9-1-1, is a pro at delivering the show’s emotional highs and lows. Despite the gravity of ER, Banfield has opportunities to relax. During a meeting, she and Dr. Morris (Scott Grimes) are trapped in the snow, and their tense relationship begins to warm up. Banfield uses it to fortify his alcoholic karaoke performance.
Waiting to Exhale (1995)
Genre | Drama, Comedy, Romance |
Release Date (Streaming) | 22-Dec-95 |
Producer | Ezra Swerdlow, Deborah Schindler, |
Writer | Ronald Bass, Terry McMillan, |
Cast | Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Dennis Haysbert, Lela Rochon, Gregory Hines |
Bassett is only one of several wives in Terry McMillan’s novel Adaption to find out about her husband’s infidelity. In this instance, her personality explodes. Bernadine has not only caught her spouse in a lie, but he also has plans to leave her for another lady.
What follows is a realistic portrayal of the daydream anyone may have upon learning of such a betrayal. It’s an angry, sorrowful, and frustrated mood. She wants nothing more than to be completely isolated from the guy who mistreated her. Bernadine gathers his clothes, including his impeccable suits, ties, and shirts, and tosses them into his vehicle. She fires it up and parks it at a safe distance so she can see the resulting fireball.
Melodrama abounds, but the true heart of the film lies in the bonds of friendship. Bernadine, Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon form a group of mutually supportive pals in the band. Their romantic lives aren’t exactly soaring. At least they have each other to lean on until they get it sorted out. Bernadine’s tale isn’t entirely tragic. Wesley Snipes walks inside the pub, where Bassett is waiting for him. Soon, they’ll be close. Bernadine’s night doesn’t finish as she’d hoped, but it does give her hope for the future.
Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)
Genre: | Comedy |
Release Date (Streaming) | 27-Oct-95 |
Producer | Mark Lipsky, Eddie Murphy, |
Writer | Charlie Murphy, Chris Parker, Michael Lucker |
Cast | Angela Bassett, John Witherspoon, Allen Payne, Zakes Mokae, Eddie Murphy, Kadeem Hardison |
New York City investigator Rita Veder is sent to investigate a peculiar case that has washed ashore at a Brooklyn wharf. Eddie Murphy’s portrayal of the vampire Maximillian has arrived. His golden eyes and sharp fangs are looking for a certain someone. It’s Rita’s, but she doesn’t know it yet. She’s a Dhampir, a cross between a human and a vampire. Vampire lore gets a twist from West Indian folklore. Rita would have waited for Jonathan Harker to come to her rescue a long time ago.
Here, she’s the one tasked with facing off against Max’s zombie form. Bassett also serves as a steadying influence on her male co-stars. Murphy does his usual multi-person act. Max transforms Julius (Kadeem Hardison) into a ghoul, speeding up his decomposition. To make matters worse, Julius’ uncle (John Witherspoon) doesn’t give a hoot about his nephew’s unattractive appearance as long as he receives his rent payment.
