The creative minds behind the hits Freaky, Happy Death Day, and Werewolves Within are coming together for a thrilling new project: the genre-bending slasher rom-com Heart Eyes. This fresh take on horror and romance, Heart Eyes movie, is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2025, courtesy of Spyglass Media Group.
Directed by Josh Ruben, known for his work on Werewolves Within and Scare Me, Heart Eyes promises a unique blend of Valentine’s Day charm and spine-tingling scares. The film features performances by Mason Gooding, celebrated for his role in Scream, and Olivia Holt, star of Cruel Summer.
In Heart Eyes, the terror begins when the infamous Heart Eyes Killer begins a rampage in Seattle. On Valentine’s Day, two co-workers working overtime find themselves mistaken for a couple by the elusive killer, who is on the hunt for pairs. They are thrust into a harrowing ordeal, spending the most romantic night of the year fleeing for their lives.
The film also stars Devon Sawa, known for his roles in Final Destination and Chucky, alongside Jordana Brewster from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
This eagerly anticipated slasher film from Spyglass, which brought us Scream, Scream VI, and Thanksgiving, boasts a screenplay crafted by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), and Michael Kennedy (Freaky).
Josh Ruben, the film’s director, expressed his enthusiasm in a statement to Deadline: “My love for horror is matched only by my passion for romantic comedies. I’m thrilled to tackle my most ambitious genre-bending project yet: a brutal slasher set within a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
Christopher Landon, alongside Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks—known for their work on M3GAN and Totally Killer—will be producing Heart Eyes. Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Chris Stone will join Phillip Murphy as executive producers for the film.
