The Cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s Film: Who is William Afton in FNAF?

The American supernatural horror movie Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the Scott Cawthon computer game franchise of the same name. Josh Hutcherson plays the lead in this Emma Tammi-directed picture, which also has Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard in supporting roles. Emma Tammi co-wrote the script alongside Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Hutcherson portrays a disturbed security guard who takes a job at a closed-down family entertainment park and pizzeria, where he learns that the robotic characters are controlled by murderous kids.

On October 27, 2023, Universal Pictures released Five Nights at Freddy’s for Peacock streaming and in theaters throughout the United States. Although reviewers gave the movie mostly unfavorable reviews, it was a financial success, earning $294 million to become Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie ever globally, even surpassing Split.

Five Nights at Freddy’s movie trailer

The most recent trailer for Five Nights At Freddy’s introduces the animatronic creatures as central figures in this ludicrous narrative. Additionally, the trailer for the film FNAF emphasizes the horror elements of the plot more than the ridiculous comedy premise that prompted earlier trailers.

The Major Cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Cory Williams as Taxi Driver

The YouTube celebrities who played the several games are largely responsible for the popularity of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. One of those people, Cory Williams, better known by his YouTube pseudonym CoryxKenshin, has a brief appearance in the movie Five Nights at Freddy’s. Williams, a taxi driver who picks up Abby after a presumably difficult night fending off dangerous animatronics, receives a brief mention after the main trailer. He’s also a little freaked out that a gigantic Golden Freddy has joined her, but he dismisses it as just another strange late-night incident.

Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa

Elizabeth Lail, who is in the role of You, portrays Vanessa, an additional character with a troubled past within the Five Nights at Freddy’s video games. In the teaser, Vanessa is shown as a kind police officer assisting Mike in solving the murder cases linked to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Even the notion that the killed children are in control of the animatronics at the facility is acceptable to her.

Vanessa (voiced by Heather Masters) debuted in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, the video game. There, she presents herself as a disciplined but otherwise unremarkable security officer attempting to locate Gregory, the young invader (Marta Svetek). Later, we learn that Vanessa is a murderous mascot who changed her name to Vanny after William Afton corrupted her.

Matthew Lillard as Steve Raglan

A favorite among fans In Five Nights at Freddy’s, scream actor Matthew Lillard at last ventures back to his horror origins, but there could be much more to this straightforward supporting role. According to the teaser, Steve Raglan, a seemingly straightforward career advisor, hires Mike Schmidt to work as a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

It seems straightforward enough, yet when Lillard was first cast in the movie, viewers almost unanimously believed he would be a fantastic match for William Afton, another character. That may or may not be the case, but later in the book, when we talk about another character, we’ll talk more in-depth about the monster that is William Afton. Till then, Raglan does seem strangely happy that Schmidt accepted the position as a night watchman at the ghostly eatery.

Piper Rubio as Abby

Piper Rubio, who plays Abby in Five Nights at Freddy’s, is the final important human figure that we are aware of. Although Abby’s precise relationship with the main character is unknown, she seems to be a relative under Mike Schmidt’s supervision. Anticipating a peaceful evening among the amiable inanimate figures, she goes with Mike to work at the pizza place. All of that is altered when it is revealed that the characters are fully animated and claim to want Abby to be exactly like them. It is also revealed that, at one point in the movie, Abby develops a strong bond with the enigmatic and elusive Golden Freddy.

Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt

Josh Hutcherson, who starred in The Hunger Games trilogy, portrays the lead character in Five Nights at Freddy’s, the actor’s first big picture based on an existing IP. Mike Schmidt looks to be the heroic stand-in for the player character in the Five Nights at Freddy’s Games. Similar to the gamers, Schmidt is employed as a night watchman at the almost closed Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a once-well-liked family entertainment park with a troubled past.

Schmidt is a little more developed than the anonymous, voiceless player character from the games; he accepted the job to help his family, who were having financial difficulties. He starts to question if this risky job is worth the money as soon as he learns that the location he has been contracted to watch is full of animatronics that have taken over.

Bonnie

Bonnie, the animatronic guitarist rabbit, is also possessed. Bonnie is among the first opponents that players face in the original Five Nights at Freddy’s Game. He approaches the security room cautiously in the hopes of giving the security guard a quick jump fright. Chica and Bonnie, who often hang out, attempt to get into the security office from both halls. Even though the three monstrous creatures stated above are terrifying, they are not the biggest hazard in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza after dark.

Freddy Fazbear

Freddy Fazbear, the uncannily frightening lead vocalist of the Fazbear Trio, is unmistakably Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza’s Chuck E. Cheese. While his design is undoubtedly unnerving, Freddy seems like your typical family-friendly mascot at first, singing to the patrons of his prestigious restaurant. The tormented spirit of a child who William Afton, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment, killed and turned into a ghost, is hiding beneath the unbreakable grin and mechanical skeleton.

The other animatronics at the pizzeria suffered the same fate, and as a result, they now follow and attack any adult who steps foot in their territory. Although Freddy and his gang may have a soft spot for children, they usually show it by shoving everything with a pulse into abandoned animatronic costumes. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop provides the real effects that bring Freddy and the other animatronics to life.

Chica

Another animatronic that has become the host of an angry, murdered soul is Chica, the third member of the Fazbear Trio. Except for her eerily eerie teeth, Chica seems to be an ordinary animatronic during the day, much like her friends. She searches the pizzeria at night for trespassers in the hopes of finally tracking down the guy who stole her quiet afterlife. Additionally, Chica carries a face-adorned cupcake, aptly titled Mr. Cupcake, with her. It’s also possible that her little pink companion is a possessed spirit seeking solace.

Foxy

Among all the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Foxy stands out since no other robot hunts for its victim with the same ferocity. In Five Nights at Freddy’s, the majority of the animatronics move slowly, only shifting places when the security guard isn’t watching. Those restrictions don’t apply to the hook-handed, one-eyed pirate named Foxy. Rather, the guard will need to watch the fox closely at all times. If they don’t, Foxy—who is among the deadliest and quickest animatronics in the building—will charge full speed for their objective.

Springtrap

One of the most important characters in the series, the last evil animatronic that makes an appearance in the movie, is a rather unexpected inclusion. In Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, a haunted house based on the infamous restaurant, Springtrap made his first appearance in the series. The major turn in the story, according to legend, was discovering that Springtrap is the zombie remains of William Afton, the former co-owner of Fazbear Entertainment who turned serial murderer. An ironic end for the guy responsible for the myriad horrors in the Five Nights at Freddy’s Universe.

Golden Freddy

One of the most enigmatic characters in the series is Golden Freddy, who appears in the games seemingly at random. Based on the trailer, it seems like Golden Freddy is the sole amiable animatronic in the movie, befriending little Abby (but there may be more nice animatronics in the movie than we realize).

Who is William Afton in FNAF?

William Afton is the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment, a legendary serial murderer, and the primary antagonist of the original Five Nights at Freddy’s. The backstory is convoluted and often unclear, much like every other aspect of the series. Most of the time, fans find themselves piecing together fragments of ideas. Afton is a British entrepreneur with a history of involvement in the themed restaurant sector.

He established Afton Robotics, LLC, which supplied animatronics for Circus Baby’s Pizza World, the company’s flagship project. Circus Baby and its inventions generated a sensation in the surrounding region. William permitted a few children to look around the property before the official opening. Elizabeth, his daughter, disregarded his advice and went near the titular Circus Baby. His oldest daughter was murdered by the animatronic.

Later on, William Afton founded more eateries in partnership with a guy by the name of Henry Emily. The name of their first invention was Fredbear’s Family Diner. Fredbear fared quite well until William killed Henry’s daughter right outside the institution. Shortly later, William’s son Michael thrust his younger sibling into the churning animatronic jaws of Fredbear, killing the newborn. Like Circus Baby’s before it, Fredbear’s closed. Henry and William started a spin-off named Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza just before Fredbear was shut down.

Fazbear’s survived for 10 years; however, most of that time was spent in decay. Two years after starting Fazbear’s, in the summer of 1985, William killed five kids. Dressed as Spring Bonny, he used the likeness of one of his well-known animatronics to entice his victims. At Fazbear’s, William crammed the five bodies inside his adorable creations. The ghosts of the children plagued the machines, causing them to attack people and spill viscera. William would leave Fazbear’s to escape going to jail; by concealing the dead, he was able to get away with murder charges.

Where to watch Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie

Numerous Universal Pictures productions may be seen streaming on NBC, and sometimes the releases coincide with their theatrical debuts. On October 27, the same day it debuted in theaters, Five Nights at Freddy’s also aired on Peacock, in addition to being a Universal production. This means that the film meets both criteria.

Is there an R-rated cut of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie?

There isn’t a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie available in an R-rated version. The film was always going to be rated PG-13.

Blumhouse decided early on to make the movie PG-13 FNAF to appeal to a broad audience. The audience for a movie with an R-rating is restricted. Thus, maintaining FNAF’s rating of PG-13 was the right move, since the film earned $136 million globally and $80 million (according to Box Office Mojo) on its first weekend of release. No doubt, a large number of younger viewers helped the box receipts.

With an estimated $20 million for production, the movie was an immediate hit with such an opening. Despite being rated PG, the movie was criticized for relying too much on jump scares and for being less adult-oriented horror. As a result, many fans are calling for an R-rated version of the film.
