6 Ways to Hire Live Entertainment

In a global study conducted by Live Nation involving 22,500 live music fans from 13 to 65 years old in 11 different countries,  71 percent agreed that “the most entertaining moments of life with live music experience”

Hiring live entertainment for your event, whether it’s live music, a comedian, or another type of performer, is one of the best ways to increase the odds of success. It will likely increase the odds of attendance and help to make it more memorable too, whether it’s for a corporate event, a wedding, or anything else. Of course, if the entertainment falls flat, it won’t be remembered in a positive light.

So how do you find the best live entertainment for your event?

Talk to Friends, Family, and Co-Workers

One of the best ways to hire just about anyone for anything is to get a referral. If any of your friends, family members, or co-workers have hired live entertainment before, they’re likely to be a great source. If, for example, you’re looking for a wedding singer for your ceremony, ask your recently married friends if they were happy with who they hired.

An Entertainment Agency

There are lots of entertainment agencies out there, offering a convenient way to hire professional live entertainment for any event. A good agency can be a trusted adviser through the event planning process and will be experienced in providing entertainment for everything from an international conference to a wedding. The downside is that you may have to pay quite a bit more as the booking agent will be taking a fee, which also means the artist’s pay will be cut too.

Friends

If you have a friend who plays in a bar band, for example, you might be able to hire live entertainment for cheap, but you’ll want to be sure they have the level of professionalism to make the event a success. Be sure to see them live yourself to avoid a potential big disappointment.

A Booking App

It seems there is an app for everything these days, and fortunately, that includes live entertainment. This is a great option for many, as it’s less costly than going through a booking agent, but you’ll be able to read through reviews to ensure you’ll be getting a talented professional for your event. You can hire skilled entertainers of all types – there’s everything from Irish dancers to hire to musicians, comedians, magicians, and even circus acts. The talent available all come with professional experience and some have even spent quite a bit of time in the spotlight, including a number of celebrities. You’ll simply search by category for the type of talent you are looking for and then filter for the date and time you need.

Search the Internet

Of course, one of the obvious ways to hire live entertainment is to simply search the Internet. Search the term “find a band (or whichever type of talent you’re looking for) near me” and odds are, many options will come up. You’ll need to do some thorough screening, however, by reading reviews on Google and Yelp and checking their websites to ensure they have the level of professionalism you’re looking for. When you have a shortlist, meet up with them in person. Even if you watch a demo, there’s nothing like face-to-face interaction.

Craigslist

Finally, there’s always Craigslist, which may turn up some very inexpensive talent. But if you use this option you’ll want to be extra cautious when it comes to screening. Look for professionally written ads, and ideally, artists that have a separate website to refer you to.
