Winter Celebrations in Thailand and Beyond: Chiang Rai

As 2020 comes to a close, people around the world are ready to celebrate holidays and the New Year. December is a month that’s full of joyous occasions and chances to spend time with family and friends. In Thailand, we also have several public holidays to enjoy time off work and seasonal festivities.

This free time is a great chance to get cozy with fun activities like playing games in an online casino such as JackpotCity. You’ll find lots of slots, table games, and more to enjoy while you’re waiting for the festivities to start, with fun chances at jackpots. Read on for more tips on how to celebrate this holiday season.

A Holiday Mood

December is a month for many celebrations in Thailand, and everyone is already in a holiday spirit as soon as the month starts. The first end of year seasonal festivities will get started from December 5th through 11th, when Thais will enjoy a three-day weekend holiday to begin the season.

Royal Birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej:

The December 5th holiday is several celebrations in one. First, it’s a holiday to remember the Royal Birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Borommanathophit. In addition, people around Thailand will also celebrate Thai National Day and Father’s Day. This year is an extra lucky holiday, though, since December 5th falls on a Saturday. That means that Monday the 7th is an extra public holiday.

Because of the economic slump that’s happening around the world, the Thai government has organized activities to encourage spending, too. This effort is in hopes to help spur the sagging economy and stimulate businesses.

Public Celebrations:

The activities include public celebrations held throughout the country. Here are some of the events.

Father’s Day:

Firstly; December 1st through 6th: The government has organized a Procession, Parade, and Exhibition to celebrate Father’s Day. It will last for six days and six nights, from 10:00 to 21:00hr, and include a number of fun activities.

Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej:

Secondly; on December 5th: Separate from the Father’s Day activities, there will also be huge ceremonial activities to honor the memory of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Borommanat Bophit and show loyalty to His Majesty’s grace.

Thai National Day:

Thirdly; December 5th: Thai National Day celebrations will take place throughout many provincial cities in Thailand. The biggest festivities will be in the capital city of Bangkok, where the government will host six different activity zones for people to celebrate National Day.

Constitution Day

Shortly after the December 5th holiday, the country will be ready for yet another celebration. On Thursday the 10th, Thailand will have another public holiday for Thai Constitution Day. This holiday commemorates Thailand’s adoption of a constitutional monarchy system in 1932.

Since the holiday falls on a Thursday, many people working in offices will be taking an annual leave day on Friday in order to enjoy a special four-day weekend. This is a great opportunity to take a short trip or just relax at home and watch movies or play online games.

Christmas

Unlike much of the West, Christmas is not a widely celebrated holiday in Thailand. Christians account for less than half a percent of the 70 million people living in Thailand. Many Thais are not familiar with Christmas celebrations and will continue working as usual throughout the season.

Foreigners working in Thailand or people who have spent time abroad may choose to celebrate, with traditional Christmas activities like gift-giving, making sweets or watching holiday movies. If you want a taste of the Christmas spirit, look for winter and holiday-themed jackpot slots in online casinos like JackpotCity.
