The CEO of Disney refuses to denounce the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill but pledges to be inclusive.

Employees of The Walt Disney Company planned walkouts today in protest of the company’s “lack of compassion and advocacy” toward its LGBTQIA+ employees and their rights.

Disney-owned Marvel Studios stated on Twitter condemning “any legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community,”, particularly in light of Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The statement’s full text is as follows:

We oppose every law that violates the LGBTQIA+ community’s fundamental human rights. Marvel Studios symbolizes optimism, acceptance, and strength, and we support the community. As allies who promote the ideals of equality, acceptance, and respect, we pledge to continue our strong commitment today.

Disney employs almost 80,000 people in Florida, with most of its Southern California-based Parks, Experiences, and Products Division jobs moving to a new regional campus in central Florida. It now has economic and political clout as a result of this.

Company Support

The company’s support for state legislators sponsoring the bill that bans ., All discussion or teaching about the LGBTQ+ community and “sexual orientation or gender identity” in the state’s public school system from kindergarten to third grade has been at the center of a firestorm over the last week. Chapek’s damage control efforts have exacerbated the problem.

Bob Chapek, the former CEO of a theme park, attempted to divert the situation after a long and painful week by apologizing and promising to pursue the discriminatory laws.

Starting with his panned March 7 memo slamming “corporate pronouncements” for accomplishing “very little to affect results or minds” and then attempting to punt at the March 9 shareholders meeting, He has been at odds with Florida’s ruling class. In an internal email, he told staffers, “You needed me to be a stronger ally in the battle for equal rights, and I let you down.” But, it was too little, too late for other Disney employees.

Contrast opinion

It contrasts with Chapek’s stated opposition to the law., he issued an internal message declaring the company’s “unwavering support to the LGBTQ+ community” but stopping short of making a public statement. Employees appeared to be even more enraged as a result of this. Chapek then said he would stop donating to legislators who voted for the bill; Governor Ron DeSantis expects to sign the account into law after it passed both the House and Senate in Florida.

“Due to the lack of compassion and advocacy, TWDC’s LGBTQIA+ community and their allies are transmitting to take a stand via many direct actions, including both virtual and in-person protests.

The first of which will take place on Tuesday, March 15,” a self-described Late Monday, a “Disney Employee,” penned an open letter that is uploading online and on social media.
