Strategy Shares Slide as Binance Breach Compounds Revenue Miss and CFO Exit

Strategy Inc. absorbed a 7.1% decline in its share price, with the drop stemming from a sector-wide crypto selloff rather than the company’s own quarterly report alone. The trigger came from outside the firm: a security breach at Binance, reported by Reuters and disclosed yesterday, that sent Bitcoin and other digital tokens lower. The estimated financial scope of the incident stands at $6.3 billion, and crypto-linked equities broadly came under pressure.

That external shock matters disproportionately for Strategy because of the size of its Bitcoin holdings. As of Sunday, the company reported owning 848,517 Bitcoin, a position that ties its valuation tightly to swings in the token’s price. Falling Bitcoin quotes are therefore as central to how the stock trades as the revenue line itself.

A Profit That Tells a Different Story Than Sales

Strategy’s third-quarter 2026 results, released yesterday, showed revenue of $125.4 million — a 3% decline from the same period a year earlier and, according to media reports, short of analyst expectations. The bottom line moved in the opposite direction. Net income reached $19.53 billion, with diluted earnings per share of $44.75. Embedded in that figure was a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets.

Investors therefore have to read the two lines separately. The headline profit reflects the performance of the company’s Bitcoin stockpile, not momentum in its operating business. A strong net result alongside shrinking revenue sends mixed signals, and the earnings beat alone does not account for the negative share-price reaction.

Finance Chief Departure Adds to the Worry List

Alongside the numbers, Strategy disclosed a leadership change. Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang will step down effective November 5, and he is set to remain with the company as an adviser through December 31. Reza Virasteh is slated to take over the finance function on January 1, 2027, meaning the succession is announced but not yet completed.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Strategy Inc?

The timing lands awkwardly, arriving just as investors are working through a Bitcoin-heavy earnings statement. Media reports said Kang’s planned exit contributed to concerns following the results release. The stock’s daily move yesterday was -5.1%, and the shares came under further pressure after hours following publication, according to media accounts.

MSCI Rules Loom as a Separate Overhang

Beyond the quarterly figures and the personnel shift, index membership has emerged as another date on the calendar. MSCI adopted new eligibility rules on October 15 that could affect Strategy. No exclusion of the company has been decided so far.

A list of affected companies is expected on November 11, with the changes due to take effect after November 30. The distinction matters for investors: new rules are in place, but a removal of Strategy is not. That question sits alongside the revenue shortfall and the announced CFO transition as a further source of uncertainty.

For now, the immediate backdrop to the share-price weakness is the crypto-sector selloff sparked by the Binance breach — an event that involves Binance, not Strategy. The quarterly report, meanwhile, reinforces how much of the company’s valuation story rests on the direction of Bitcoin.
