Social Media Marketing Tips for Small Businesses By Pierre Zarokian

Sometimes, staying connected and building relationships with customers can become a difficult task. Luckily, thanks to social media, there are a lot of easier ways to keep connected with your customers. However, running a social media profile is harder than it looks. Here are some tips you need to know when managing your social media profile.

Be where your audience is

Knowing your target audience is one of the most important parts of marketing your product and building your social media page. When building your social media presence online, you need to know what social media sites your customers use. For example, if you are a B2B company, you might want to focus on using Twitter and LinkedIn. If you have a customer base of individuals instead of businesses, see what the age range of your clients is. If your customers are older, focus on Facebook when marketing. If your customers are younger, focus on Instagram.

Familiarize yourself with each social media site

When building a social media profile, it’s important that you familiarize yourself with the social media site you are using. For example, when using sites like Instagram, following different accounts can be a good strategy to gain followers. However, Facebook pages can’t follow other accounts. So your strategy to gain a following with Facebook might be different than other sites like Instagram.

Post on a regular schedule

Managing a profile for your company is a difficult task. It’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t get the attention you wanted. Don’t give up! Keeping a regular schedule of posting is one of the best ways to gain followers for your profile. Who knows? There’s always a chance that one of the posts will gain a lot of traction and kickstart your page. Being active is one of the best ways to gain new followers and also gain customers from your current followers, so post as often as possible.

Use ads

One of the quickest ways to gain an audience for your business is through advertisements. Most social media sites have an advertisement system built-in for business profiles. Ads are an investment, so when making an advertisement, make sure you are promoting the best content you have in order to get the most attention.

Make your page stand out

Similar to designing a product or a website, when making social media profiles you want to get the attention of potential customers. Most social media accounts allow you to add a biography, profile picture, and a banner. A good design you could use for a profile is your logo as the profile picture, your product as the banner, and some information about your product and your website link in the bio.  Also, it is best to hire a graphic designer to do page cover, if it is allowed. Be sure to think of using some tag lines as well.

Announce your page

If you already have a customer base before making your social media account, another way to gain followers for your page would be to announce it to your customers. If you send out newsletters or have an email list, try sending out an email to let them know about your new page.

Run Contests or Giveaways

Running contents or giveaways is a great way to gain new followers.  There are many tools available that make the contest or giveaway management easier. Examples are gleam.io and Mozeus. Using such tools you can collect user info and make them do certain actions to enter giveaways. For example, you can ask them to follow your other social media accounts and/or tag their friends in order to enter the giveaway.

Tips for Facebook

Facebook handles business pages a little differently than most social media sites. You need to make a Facebook business or brand page instead of a personal profile. A Facebook business page cannot follow anyone, so getting traffic to your page will be a little tough. However, a good way to bring people to your profile is by inviting people to your page through a personal or employee’s Facebook page. You can also share your page on any related groups. However, make sure you are abiding by the group’s rules.

Tips for Instagram

When managing an Instagram account, it is important to utilize Instagram’s hashtag system. Using hashtags is a great way to get your posts seen by people interested in your product. Try using trending hashtags related to your product. For example, if you are releasing a pride flag for Pride Month, you might use the hashtags #pride or #love.

Tips for LinkedIn

When your client base is mostly businesses, the best place to market online would be using LinkedIn. Making a great summary can go a long way. So make sure to spend a lot of time working on and perfecting the summary for your profile. Also, LinkedIn is a great way to make connections with people that you believe will be interested in your product.

Linkedin is also a more personal network, so always send an introduction message to your new connections.

Tips for Twitter

When managing a Twitter account, the best way to get followers is to post often. I It’s recommended that you use a tool that can post news via RSS feeds and post content 3-4 times every day. Also, posting frequently will result in your latest posts being displayed in the Google search results.

I hope that these tips would help you improve your social media marketing and help you gain further business.
