Sabrina Carpenter made a dazzling entrance on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet on September 11, turning heads with her signature sparkle and a wardrobe classic. The 25-year-old “Espresso” singer, who is nominated for six awards this year, showcased a standout look that paid homage to a legendary fashion moment.
Carpenter wore a vintage Bob Mackie gown previously donned by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars. The stunning white dress featured a sweetheart neckline and intricate silver beaded detailing, perfectly complementing her delicate De Beers necklace. Completing her look, Carpenter sported De Beers earrings and a ring, while her bombshell blonde curls, styled by Evanie Frausto, channeled both Madonna and Marilyn Monroe vibes.
Her glamorous look was dewy and radiant, featuring a bold red lip created by makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez. Gonzalez used Velour lashes to give Carpenter a “dreamy pinup” appearance, as she described in a press release.
At the awards show held at New York’s UBS Arena, Carpenter was nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Espresso,” Best Pop, Best Direction for “Please Please Please,” Best Editing for “Espresso,” and Best Art Direction for “Please Please Please.” Additionally, Carpenter is set to perform at the event.
Taylor Swift leads this year’s ceremony with 10 nominations, while Post Malone follows closely with nine.
At the 2023 ceremony, where Carpenter performed during the preshow, she graced the pink carpet in an ethereal custom Vera Wang Haute gown. The tulle-draped dress featured a crystal-embellished corset, highlighting her radiant look.
Her blonde hair was elegantly swept back with a few tendrils framing her face, and she accessorized with sparkling jewels and metallic shoes, completing her stunning appearance.
Carpenter is currently riding high with the recent release of her latest album, Short n’ Sweet, which came out in August and features her VMAs-nominated tracks. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she revealed that the album’s title reflects more than just her height.
“I called it Short n’ Sweet for multiple reasons. It wasn’t about my height,” Carpenter explained. “I considered some of the shortest relationships I’ve had and how they impacted me the most.”
The album has received enthusiastic endorsements from those close to her, including her on-again-off-again love interest Barry Keoghan, who praised it on Instagram, and her best friend Joey King. During New York Fashion Week, King described “Don’t Smile” as “perfect,” though she admits her favorite song changes daily.
The 2024 MTV VMAs will air on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT live from UBS Arena in New York.
