Razzie Awards 2023: Tom Hanks and Jared Leto nominated for worst performances

Now that awards season is here, Hollywood is honoring the best movies and actors of 2022, while the Razzie Awards honor the “worst” movies and actors of the year.

“Blonde,” the controversial Marilyn Monroe biography directed by Andrew Dominik, leads the pack with eight nods. While Ana de Armas is not nominated for worst actress, the film and Dominik are nominated for worst picture, director, and script, respectively. Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel are also contending for the award for worst supporting actor, along with Mod Sun and Pete Davidson for “Good Mourning” and Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks for “Elvis.”

Hanks is also in the running for worst actor for his performance as Geppetto in the live-action Disney film “Pinocchio.” Colson Baker (a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly, whose stoner comedy “Good Mourning” received a total of seven nominations), Davidson (for a voice performance in “Marmaduke”), Sylvester Stallone (“Samaritan”), and Jared Leto (“Morbius”) round out the field for worst actor.

The April opening weekend gross of $39 million for the Sony Pictures vampire film based on the Marvel villain was a failure. The film starring Jared Leto was lambasted by reviewers and became an immediate internet meme, resulting in a June re-release that grossed around $300,000.

“Pinocchio” is nominated for six prizes, while “Morbius” garnered five and “The King’s Daughter” received three.

This year’s nominees do not include the special award presented to Bruce Willis, who featured in eleven films in 2022. Last year, the Razzies created a category titled “worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 film.” However, the satirical awards organisation rescinded the award in March after Willis’ family revealed that the “Die Hard” actor was battling aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage that hinders a person’s ability to communicate.

Ryan Kiera Armstrong, the 12-year-old star of “Firestarter,” is nominated for worst actress at this year’s Razzie Awards. If you thought the Razzies would be less cruel this year, you were mistaken.
