OHB Picks Up a EUR 554 Million ESA Mandate While Its Share Price Takes a Breather

OHB has packed a great deal into a short stretch of the calendar: a major European Space Agency contract, a fresh equity stake, an exploratory pact on orbital safety, and a milestone for one of its deep-space probes. The market, for its part, has been rather less enthusiastic.

The headline item is the ESA’s decision to task subsidiary OHB System with developing the next-generation Sentinel-3 topography satellite for the Copernicus programme. The contract carries a volume of more than EUR 554 million and includes an option for a second spacecraft. It is the kind of award that underpins the order book for years rather than quarters.

Alongside that, OHB has agreed a strategic partnership with MediaMobil Communication GmbH. Under a capital increase, the Bremen-based group is taking a 25% stake in the company — a concrete step rather than a talking point.

The same cannot yet be said of the Astroscale arrangement. Roughly two weeks ago, OHB SE and Astroscale Holdings Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding to explore cooperation on protecting critical space infrastructure and on sustainable use of the orbit. Both sides have been careful to frame it as the examination of a possible collaboration, not a decision already taken.

Hera Sends Back Its First Look at Didymos

Further out in the solar system, the Hera probe developed by OHB System for the ESA has transmitted its first image of the Didymos asteroid system. The ESA has said it will publish detailed images of the two asteroids, Didymos and Dimorphos, on 25 November — the next mission milestone on the list.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

On the corporate side, OHB disclosed that chief executive Marco Fuchs received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2026 award in the Innovation category.

Investors now have a fixed date to work towards. The company will publish its nine-month results for 2026 on 12 November, with a results presentation to follow; the schedule lists the release for 08:00. That report will be the first full accounting of how the operational news flow has fed through to the business.

Shares Give Ground With the Sector

The stock closed Friday down 3.4%, in a broader retreat among European space and defence names that media reports had flagged a day earlier. That coverage referred to Thursday’s trading, so the weakness should be read as part of a sector-wide move rather than a verdict on any single announcement.

For now, the picture is one of a company stacking up technical and contractual wins while the equity trades in step with its peers. The 12 November numbers will go some way to showing whether the order intake is translating into the earnings line.
