Bridgerton has taken on a new lead for the fourth season! Netflix revealed on Tuesday, July 23, that Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, will be the next Bridgerton family member to embark on a romance. The announcement was made in an Instagram video, which included some of Benedict’s onscreen moments from the series.
“Welcome to the marriage, Mart Mr. Bridgerton,” the video description stated. “Benedict’s story is coming next season.”
Thompson appears as himself onscreen at the conclusion of the video and is dressed in a suit. Despite his initial confusion, he is told that he is being fitted for “the masquerade ball.”
Thompson realizes the work at hand and responds, “In that case, come on in!”
Season 1 of the streaming success, which launched in 2020, followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset’s (Regé-Jean Page) unexpected yet passionate journey to love. As the show’s second season began in 2022, Daphne’s brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) began his slow-burn love affair with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Fans recently watched Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) love tale with lifelong childhood friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
As rumors of the potential fourth season circulated, Thompson chimed in on the idea of his character Benedict taking the major role. However, during a June appearance on The View, he confessed that he was unclear about what to expect from the drama series: “I don’t know.”
“I know that it’s so lovely and that one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and fill him in slowly,” the actor said. “So as long as I keep getting to do that.”
“Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.” So says Netflix in their synopsis of the new season, which officially centers on the second eldest son of the Bridgerton family, Benedict, who is known for his bohemian lifestyle.
