Speaking at an event tonight, Jennifer Aniston made it clear that joining TikTok is not in her plans anytime soon. She explained her decision by noting that she wants to avoid falling into yet another digital rabbit hole. Despite breaking records when she joined Instagram in 2019, she prefers to keep social media “at arm’s length.”
“I don’t have TikTok, and I never will,” Aniston declared firmly. “I’m not about to subscribe to one more thing that could potentially disrupt my life or anyone else’s.”
She explained that she didn’t even realize how much time she was spending scrolling through baby clips and cat memes on Instagram, so avoiding TikTok seems like the best way to prevent falling into the same trap again.
“It could suck you in, and you end up wasting hours of your life,” she added. “Sometimes I can’t believe how I’d find myself in a complete wormhole of dog videos, puppy rescues, babies, and cats. While I enjoy that content, there’s also stuff online that I’d rather not see.”
Aniston expressed concerns about the impact of TikTok’s endless scroll on the human brain. “I don’t think we were designed to process information at the speed and volume we do today,” she said. “I don’t believe it’s good for us or healthy.”
She also highlighted a critical issue she sees with social media: “the mental illness that kids are facing due to the cycle of comparison and despair.” Aniston noted, “It’s incredibly tough to be a teenager now. We’re hard on ourselves, and kids can be so cruel, too.”
When it comes to curating her Instagram feed, Aniston aims for her posts to reflect genuine authenticity. “I believe it’s best to just be who you are,” she shared about her approach to social media. “We experience good days and bad days, have fantastic hair days and not-so-great ones. Our skin can look radiant or flawed. It’s a mixed bag. Trying to present something that doesn’t feel real is just unrealistic.”
