Breakups are challenging not only for the couple but also for their mutual friends, who often face the difficult task of picking sides. Despite the Bennifer split, Matt Damon is choosing to stay neutral and maintain his connections with both parties.
Even though Matt Damon has been close friends with Ben Affleck since childhood, he is maintaining his relationship with Affleck’s ex, Jennifer Lopez. Both Damon and Lopez were present at the Unstoppable premiere during the Toronto International Film Festival.
Damon, who is a co-producer on the film alongside Affleck and Lopez, and Lopez, who stars in the lead role, were seen having a “deep conversation” at the after-party following the event.
A source revealed that Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon spent over 20 minutes chatting at the event. Lopez was seen sitting outside at a table at the EPOCH Bar and Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton, accompanied by Damon’s wife, Luciana Damon, and co-star Don Cheadle, when Damon joined them.
“Jen and Matt started chatting and had a lengthy, meaningful conversation,” the source shared. They laughed together before delving into more serious topics. At one point, they were seen holding hands for several minutes during their discussion.
Affleck, on the other hand, missed the film’s premiere and was seen out in Los Angeles sporting a navy suit and sunglasses. According to Unstoppable director William Goldenberg, Affleck’s absence was not due to any “awkwardness” between him and Lopez. “Everyone’s a professional, and that’s their own personal thing,” Goldenberg said. “I love them both. I know Ben better, but Jennifer was a dream to work with. She was incredible. Their personal life is their personal life.”
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding, citing irreconcilable differences and listing the date of separation as April 26, 2024. “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” a source revealed. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
