George Clooney recently recounted a playful prank he pulled on Tom Cruise during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, September 17th. The 63-year-old actor revealed his penchant for sending letters that seem to be from famous figures, including former President Bill Clinton and his “Ocean’s” co-star Brad Pitt.
Clooney shared that he has a habit of crafting these amusing letters using fake stationery gifted by Kimmel, including ones purportedly from Clinton and Pitt. “I like to choose their least successful film and write, ‘I was on a plane watching your movie,'” he explained.
One notable prank involved sending a letter to Don Cheadle and Tom Cruise, claiming that Brad Pitt wanted to play Lestat in a sequel to Interview with the Vampire. Clooney also sent a similar prank to Meryl Streep, complete with a box of dialect CDs, suggesting that the accent coach from Troy could help her with her role. “Brad mentioned that Tom called him, saying he was fine with Brad playing Lestat, and Brad was confused,” Kimmel chimed in with a laugh.
Cruise, 62, and Pitt starred together in the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire, playing two vampires from the 18th and 19th centuries, alongside Kirsten Dunst.
When asked if people often realize quickly that he’s behind the prank when receiving such unusual letters from celebrities, Clooney replied, “There’s usually some guessing involved. People often figure it out.”
Clooney added with a grin, “I will say this—once you’ve pulled off a truly elaborate prank, it’s like having nuclear weapons. Everyone becomes so scared of you that even when someone tried to prank me, they called all my friends and warned them, ‘No! He could put a dead body in my apartment!’”
Clooney has a well-established reputation for pulling pranks on his collaborators, friends, and co-stars. He recounted to Kimmel how he deliberately made his and Pitt’s Wolfs director, Jon Watts, go through a rigorous pitch process before Watts approached Pitt about their new action-comedy.
“I really made him work on it, pushing him to refine his pitch. I told him, ‘Don’t do it like that,’” Clooney recalled. “I essentially scared the absolute life out of him before he called Brad.”
Is George Clooney good friends with Brad Pitt?
“Brad and George are forever friends,” the person said. “They enjoy and appreciate each other regardless of how many years have passed since their last engagement. They have a long history together and were delighted to collaborate on this project. “Wolfs was a meaty project, and both were very interested in it,” the insider said.
