D-Wave Quantum Stock Soars on Nvidia’s Quantum Computing Push

A major announcement from artificial intelligence giant Nvidia has sent shockwaves through the quantum computing sector, with D-Wave Quantum Inc. emerging as a primary beneficiary. The chipmaker’s mid-April 2026 unveiling of its “Ising” models, the world’s first open-source quantum model family, triggered a powerful re-rating of quantum stocks. D-Wave’s shares surged nearly 23% on Wednesday, April 15, closing at $20.81 on trading volume that soared 227% above its three-month average.

The rally wasn’t isolated. Across the sector, peers like IonQ jumped over 50%, while Rigetti Computing and Quantum Computing Inc. each gained more than 30%. Analysts point to a growing narrative of “AI-Quantum convergence,” where advancements in artificial intelligence directly accelerate quantum computing’s practical development. Nvidia’s new suite promises to make quantum error correction up to 2.5 times faster and three times more precise, potentially slashing processor calibration time from days to hours.

D-Wave’s CEO, Dr. Alan Baratz, seized the moment at the QED-C Quantum Summit on April 15, directly challenging the notion that classical computing is sufficient. He highlighted the stark efficiency of D-Wave’s quantum annealing technology, noting a single D-Wave quantum computer consumes about ten kilowatts—comparable to five to ten GPUs—yet can solve complex optimization problems in minutes. According to Baratz, a GPU cluster would require nearly a million years to solve the same problems, with applications already live in personnel scheduling, telecom networks, and pharmaceutical supply chains.

The company’s commercial momentum provides a solid foundation for this optimism. Financially, D-Wave is well-capitalized, holding $884.5 million in cash and marketable securities as of April 17. This war chest supports an aggressive dual-platform strategy, advancing both its established annealing technology and newer gate-model systems. Growth is evident in the numbers: for the full fiscal year 2025, the company reported revenue of $24.6 million, a 179% year-over-year increase.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

Future bookings are even more compelling. Total bookings for 2026 already stand at $32.8 million, a figure that surpassed the entirety of fiscal 2025’s bookings in January 2026 alone. Recent major deals include a $20 million system sale to Florida Atlantic University and a ten-year enterprise agreement with a Fortune 100 company for Quantum-Compute-as-a-Service.

This expansion comes with increased costs. D-Wave is actively growing its teams, planning to increase its gate-model engineering staff in New Haven, Connecticut, by at least 50% by year-end. A new research center is also being established in Boca Raton, Florida, to support its Leap quantum cloud service. The company anticipates its quarterly operating expenses will rise by approximately 15% throughout the current fiscal year.

Wall Street’s view remains cautiously optimistic. Analysts at Wedbush maintain a $40 price target, while Canaccord Genuity holds at $43, suggesting 2026 could be a record year for bookings. Mizuho Securities, which trimmed its target to $31 in early April, retains an “Outperform” rating but cites rising costs and growing competition. Technically, the $16.70 level is seen as a key support zone. The upcoming first-quarter earnings report will be a critical test, offering investors a clearer view of whether the rapid booking growth can outpace the expanding cost base.
