This long-awaited Peaky Blinders movie has officially gone into production, and Netflix shared the first behind-the-scenes photos on Monday, September 30th. Peering back into the polished boots of Tommy Shelby is Cillian Murphy, who won his first Oscar for Best Actor recently. The first photos feature Murphy in costume looking dapper and a casual-looking Steven Knight, the show’s creator.
Steven Knight, a man who is 65 years old, about these new elements, the film is set in World War II setting. Knight said this jokingly: “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders… ‘Course I wrote it in a period which is very… tense.”
Joining Murphy are Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and Barry Keoghan as other members in the cast while all the information on the particular plot in the movie remains very limited.
Director Tom Harper transmitted the energy and excitement that they had prior to shooting the live episodes. Speaking to the fans Harper said,” Thank you for where we are today, and now we are confident that the next step is going to give us something special.”
The BBC show, which ended in 2022 after six seasons, was first officially announced for a movie adaptation by Netflix back in June. They also posted the script on X, now defunct Twitter, as proof that Knight penned the script and Harper directed the film.
On reflecting more on his character, Murphy said, “It feels like the Tommy Shelby character wasn’t quite through with me yet … It is very pleasing to once again be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the big screen adaptation of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
Murphy, who earned his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor earlier this year for his performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ is fuel on that fire. Finally, in his acceptance speech, Murphy hugged Nolan and the Academy by stating how much they both had enjoyed working together for the last 20 years. He also wants to thank the ‘Oppenheimer team and his family who have always been with him in this way.
The BBC Film joint venture produced ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie is still awaiting the setting of an exact premiere date however people still remain eager to see further development.
