Charlize Theron Expresses Gratitude for Support from ‘Twisters’ Stars at 2024 Africa Outreach Project Block Party

Charlize Theron is appreciative of the Twisters cast. At the 2024 Block Party for her charity Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), which took place on Saturday, July 13, the 48-year-old actress revealed an exclusive interview on the impact that the Twisters cast’s support had on her.

Among the many visitors who graced the Universal Studio Backlot were Twisters actors Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, who brought along his dog Brisket. “It makes me wanna cry,” she adds.

“It’s one thing to be so enthusiastic about something. It’s another thing to have a community behind it, saying, ‘I want to support that,’ and that’s simply… Yeah, it’s quite wonderful.”

Theron also stressed the necessity of marketing for the organization and keeping “the narrative alive.”

“Yeah, the phone calls never stop,” she explains. “It’s one of those occupations that is both difficult and, to be honest, unpleasant, but necessary. It’s critical to keep the story alive even when individuals can’t support it. So, yes, you do make phone calls.

Theron, who was born and raised in Benoni, South Africa, founded the organization in 2007 and has been hosting the fundraiser for the last four years. The CTAOP’s mission is to promote a more egalitarian future for the kids of Theron’s own nation.

The private charity “supports locally-led community-based organizations that work directly with young people and focus on sexual reproductive health and rights and/or the prevention of gender-based violence.” According to the nonprofit’s website, the CTAOP will have given Southern Africa more than $10 million in awards by 2022.

The Mad Max: Fury Road actor also expressed her gratitude for being able to see her nonprofit’s growth over the last 15 years.

“I think longevity and anything that’s this important is something to feel really good about because this is important work,” she told me.

“It’s really vital work. And the fact that we get to have a little role in that is something we work so hard for. “We want to do it right,” Theron said. “We want to be of service as best we can to our community leaders that are on the ground in the trenches doing the work.”

“So whatever we need to support them, we’re happy to be able to do that for over 17 years.”

Twisters open in cinemas on Friday, July 17.
