Blake Lively is finding that art imitates reality! In a thoughtful Instagram post on Saturday, July 27, the 36-year-old Gossip Girl star said that she has adored floristry since she arrived in the big city as a kid.
“I’ve always thought I was a florist, well before playing one,” she started the post’s description, alluding to her part as florist Lily Bloom in the forthcoming film It Ends with Us.
“I buy corner store flowers, take them home, reassemble them & give them a new life,” Lively wrote. “Ever since I moved to the city at 19, that’s been one of my creative and meditative anchors.”
“It’s design, it’s interaction with nature, and it’s a multisensory delight. “Whenever I get the opportunity to garden from scratch and put together new arrangements, I feel like the luckiest person on the planet,” she exclaimed, characterizing the practice as “straight-up peace.”
“No, there is no joke coming. Just me being serious about flowers. Ugh, pure honesty. “I hate it here,” she said in the opening line of her caption.
Lively went on to say that some of the photographs in the carousel post were taken when she got to arrange flowers with her It Ends With Us co-star Isabela Ferrer, who plays a younger version of Lily in the film.
“It’s neat to see how our personalities come through in the flowers,” Lively said in the post. “This is why I like this stuff. All of the things you can learn about individuals by seeing them produce in various media intrigues me. We were hurrying, but I’m a proud peacock about our plans!”
It Ends with Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book of the same name, will be available on August 9. Following her father’s burial, Lily, played by Lively, relocates to Boston to begin a flower business.

The discovery prompts Lily to recall her first love, Atlas Corrigan (played by Brandon Sklenar as an adult), with whom she terminated her romance when he left to enlist in the military. She starts to wonder whether she still has emotions for Atlas while in a possibly violent relationship with her present partner, neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni).
