The actor Ben Affleck has said that he is “a little bit shy” and would rather stay in the background. During the season 4 premieres of Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart, Affleck, 51, spoke up about his life in the limelight, noting how people react differently when they see him and his wife Jennifer Lopez in public.
Hart, 44, initially inquired if the Air actor preferred working behind or in front of the camera. Affleck described himself as a “director,” but added that he’s “a little bit shy.”
“I also don’t like a lot of attention,” he said. “This is why people see me and think, ‘Well, this dude is always mad…'”Because someone’s camera is stuck to my face.”
“I don’t mind if you take my photo at a club, a premiere, or anything. My wife, I don’t care. Go ahead. Knock yourself out. “I don’t notice you,” he responded, before adding, “My children, that’s another matter.”
Affleck and ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52, have three children: Violet (18), Seraphina (15), and Samuel (12). He is also stepfather to Lopez’s 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, whom she had with ex Marc Anthony.
As the discussion progressed, Affleck mentioned the many ways supporters show their appreciation for him and Lopez. “We went someplace with Jennifer—I can’t remember because she’s so famous, and she does this—people adore her. And she really symbolizes something significant to individuals,” Affleck said.
“To me, people are like, ‘Hey, I like your movie,’ and then they’re like, ‘AHHHH! J-LO!'” he burst out. “It’s amazing; you know what I mean?” The Good Will Hunting actress also related a story about how Lopez unexpectedly found herself surrounded by admirers while their family of seven was vacationing in Times Square.
“We got out of the car and were going to a play, and I was like, ‘F— it, babe, we’re going to be late, we’ve got to walk a block and a half.'” “(Lopez) was like, ‘Alright,’ and she didn’t say anything,” he said.
“We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the s— was like f—in’ bananas,'” he said. “I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ There was a woman smoking cannabis in a complete purple skintight suit—she’s a hefty lady—and she started sprinting backward and shooting, saying, ‘J-LO!!’ Like a herald. Then he grabs everyone else; they’re all tourists, so just keep going.”
“Then I’ll move. We have five kids, me, and Jen, and it seems like hundreds of people are yelling,” he said. “By the way, in that moment, you got to be oblivious to act like it’s all okay,” Hart went on:
“Affleck quipped, “That’s why I put on my bitch face.”
It’s unclear when this episode of Heart to Hart was filmed, but Affleck and Lopez’s marriage has been rocky lately, with Lopez vacationing in Italy without him this week and their joint Beverly Hills property being up for sale. The two had last attended Samuel’s graduation together in June.
