XPeng’s MONA L05 Sells Out First Batch in Three Minutes as Analysts Trim Targets

XPeng launched the MONA L05 in China yesterday, and the first 5,000 pre-built vehicles were gone by that evening. Vice President Yu Tao put the time needed at roughly three minutes β€” a striking opening for a model the company is counting on to lift deliveries in the closing quarter.

The L05 arrives in six variants, priced from 139,800 to 171,800 yuan, with a 5,000-yuan launch discount baked in. XPeng is offering the car both as a battery-electric vehicle and with a range extender, widening the addressable buyer pool within a single model line. A further BEV 560 Plus variant joins the range. The 139,800-yuan figure is a time-limited entry price rather than a permanently fixed starting point.

Shipping Abroad Before the Home Launch

International shipments of the L05 began on Monday, ahead of the Chinese market debut, with XPeng targeting sales across 65 countries and regions. Europe is slated for an introduction in early 2027, while domestic deliveries start on 1 November 2026.

The distribution footprint is expanding in parallel. Dealer agreements announced on Tuesday add partners in Nigeria, Oman, Kuwait and Albania β€” four new markets for the company’s commercial presence. Plans disclosed yesterday also point to a dealer and service network of 66 locations in Australia and seven in New Zealand, though these are targets rather than a completed build-out.

A Record Quarter With a Year-to-Date Hole

The launch lands against a mixed delivery picture. XPeng set a quarterly record of 118,390 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, up 2.05% year on year. Over the longer stretch, however, the company remains below its prior-year level: 284,367 vehicles delivered from January to September 2026, a decline of 9.20%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?

That gap defines the L05’s job. Management wants monthly sales above 60,000 vehicles, and the model is meant to reinforce the recent upward trend while helping close the shortfall accumulated over the year. The monthly target remains an ambition, not an achieved run rate.

Analysts Stay Cautious

October brought more conservative price targets from analysts, and the two research houses remain split on their recommendations even as they share a lower target. Operational momentum and valuation perspective have thus diverged: new models and additional retail partners mark concrete expansion steps, but they do not amount to an upward revision of expectations.

The launch discounts cut both ways for investors. They can support demand, yet a strong opening order book says little on its own about the model’s eventual contribution to earnings. Whether the rapid initial sellout translates into sustained orders and matching deliveries β€” rather than a one-off burst from a limited pre-built batch β€” is the test that matters. Sales growth and profitability will need to be judged separately.
