SanDisk’s Four-Year Contracts Face Their First Real Test

When SanDisk reports fiscal 2027 first-quarter results after the U.S. close tomorrow, the headline profit figure will draw the attention. The more revealing number may be buried in the guidance: how much of the current memory upcycle the company can actually lock in.

Shares rose 6.0% today, according to one reading of the session, as investors positioned ahead of the print. The tailwind is real — SK Hynix reported that average NAND selling prices climbed in the mid-20% range from the prior quarter, even as shipped NAND volumes slipped slightly. That combination matters. The industry’s positive signal rests on pricing, not on a broad acceleration in units.

A Bar That Has Already Been Raised

SanDisk’s own forecast calls for revenue of $10.3–10.8 billion in the quarter, with adjusted earnings per share of $44–46. Bernstein reiterated its Buy rating and a $3,000 price target; Wedbush also rates the stock Buy, with a $2,000 target, and has lifted its revenue and profit estimates for the quarter. That upgrade cuts both ways. A result inside company guidance could be operationally strong and still fall short of what investors now expect, which shifts the spotlight to the outlook for the following quarter.

The pricing story is not new to SanDisk’s numbers. In the final quarter of fiscal 2026, roughly two-thirds of revenue growth came from higher prices and one-third from volume. The latest SK Hynix data reinforce that driver without substituting for SanDisk’s own proof of earnings.

Contracts Carry More Weight Than the Tape

The strongest part of the bull case sits in long-term customer agreements with a weighted average duration of more than four years. Those deals are set to cover more than half of flash sales in fiscal 2027. They improve visibility and reduce reliance on spot pricing — but revenue coverage is not the same as a guarantee of sustained high margins. Minimum-price clauses offer protection while potentially capping the upside from further price increases.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?

Margins deserve just as much scrutiny. Their exceptional level is a powerful earnings signal, and precisely for that reason the guidance should explain what conditions underpin that profitability. The higher the starting base, the less a simple reference to a friendly memory market will suffice.

On the demand side, SanDisk expects mid-teens percentage growth in sellable bits for 2027 and says demand exceeds supply, with allocation of available volumes potentially necessary beyond this year. That points to continued scarcity, though it does not rule out a later supply glut from capacity expansion. Long-term contracts with large cloud customers could likewise limit pricing power.

The Skeptical Case Has Not Disappeared

Investor Louis Gerard flags dependence on cloud providers, weak consumer demand and additional NAND capacity — a negative view that stands against the optimistic analyst consensus. The warning is worth weighing without automatically dismissing the positive case. SanDisk does not need strong growth everywhere at once, but broader-based demand would make its earnings less vulnerable to the capital-spending decisions of any single customer group.

For now, the operating arguments outweigh a purely bearish reading. The long-term minimum-price contracts matter more than today’s share-price move. A convincing report, though, has to deliver more than big profits: it must show that SanDisk can convert its strong pricing position into durable future earnings. That is the standard by which tomorrow’s confidence should be measured.
