2G Energy finds itself pulled in two directions. On one side stands a fresh endorsement from SMC Research, which lifted its rating on the combined heat and power (CHP) specialist from “Buy” to “Strong Buy” and nudged its price target from 80.00 to 82.00 euros. On the other sits a chart that has yet to confirm the optimism: the shares closed Friday at 47.28 euros and remain beneath their 200-day moving average.
The stock drew some relief from the analyst move, adding 2.0 percent to trade at 48.24 euros. Yet the longer-term picture is sturdier than the recent pullback suggests — year to date, the equity is still up 35 percent.
A First Half That Leaves a Lot to Do
The case for a
Management has not budged from its full-year ambitions. The board continues to guide for group revenue of 440 to 490 million euros in 2026 and an EBIT margin of 9.5 to 10.5 percent. Analysts have run the numbers and the arithmetic is unforgiving — roughly 98 percent of the expected full-year operating profit must be generated in the second half.
That gap has split the market. SMC Research leans on the expectation of a markedly livelier second six months, and it points to orders already on the books running into 2028 and 2029 for visibility. Parmantier & Cie. takes the other side, openly questioning whether the 2026 target can be met given the thin margins of the first half.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying 2G Energy?
US Data Centers as the Long-Term Engine
Beyond the near-term debate, 2G Energy is betting on demand from energy-hungry industries. At its Capital Markets Day on October 10, the company flagged orders totaling 675 MW for data centers in the United States — a signal of its international ambitions.
Insider activity has added a modest vote of confidence. Friedrich Pehle, a member of the 2G Energy AG board, acquired shares through a joint account on October 13 in a transaction worth 5,600.00 euros. The purchase comprised 100 shares at 56.00 euros apiece, executed via a joint account with Daniela Lohmann-Pehle.
The Chart and the Calendar
Technically, the stock still has work to do. The 200-day moving average sits at 51.49 euros — above the current price — and the recent correction has left the technical picture looking softer despite the year-to-date gain.
What happens next hinges on whether deliveries accelerate quickly enough to deliver the anticipated earnings jump in the closing quarter. The third-quarter report should give investors their clearest read yet on whether the second-half rebound SMC Research is counting on has actually begun — and whether the fundamental story can catch up with the upgrade.
