Plug Power Rises 2% Even as Hydrogen Sector Sells Off — and Its Danish Backlog Still Awaits a Building Permit

Plug Power shares advanced 2.0% today, a modest bounce that stands in contrast to the broader battering hydrogen and fuel-cell names took just yesterday. During Thursday’s session, a sector-wide selloff swept through the space: Plug Power shed 3%, the Global X Hydrogen ETF dropped 4%, and Bloom Energy and FuelCell Energy each gave up 8%. Media reports attributed the declines to general sector weakness rather than anything specific to Plug Power.

That divergence frames the central tension facing the company right now. A rising tide of capital costs and investor impatience is colliding with an order book that looks impressive on paper but remains contingent on decisions Plug Power does not control.

A 280-Megawatt Deal With a String Attached

The clearest illustration is the agreement Plug Power struck roughly a week ago with project developer Arcadia eFuels. The arrangement covers GenEco electrolyzers totaling 280 megawatts for the ENDOR project in Denmark. Alongside the supply deal, the two companies outlined a strategic partnership covering more than a gigawatt of potential synthetic aviation fuel (e-SAF) projects.

The downstream picture has also been sketched out. Once built, ENDOR is expected to produce around 110 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, according to media reports. Uniper has already committed to offtake, agreeing to purchase 40,000 tonnes of e-SAF annually from the Danish facility.

What the deal does not yet have is a construction green light. Deliveries of the electrolyzers will not begin until ENDOR receives its formal building permit — a condition that leaves the timing of any revenue entirely open. Until that official starting signal arrives, the agreement remains a blueprint for the future rather than a booked order.

The Chart Tells Its Own Story

Investors have not been shy about pricing in that uncertainty. At a current level of EUR 1.57, Plug Power trades 26% below its 200-day moving average. Over the past twelve months, the stock has lost 53% of its value. In pre-market trading today, the shares were quoted at EUR 1.55, following Thursday’s close at EUR 1.54.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Plug Power?

The long-term chart reflects a stock that has yet to convince the market it has turned a corner. Hopes for a sustained reversal keep running into the same wall: binding revenue is still somewhere over the horizon.

Board Compensation, Not Insider Buying

Separately, five directors reported stock grants roughly a week ago under the compensation plan for external board members. The mandatory disclosures make clear these were routine compensation awards, not open-market purchases. For a market hungry for signs of conviction from the top, the distinction matters.

Plug Power also unveiled a redesigned website yesterday — a cosmetic change with no bearing on operations. In a climate where capital is expensive and profitability is being demanded rather than hoped for, what counts is a solid order book and dependable cash flows.

From Signed Paper to Shipped Product

The market’s message to hydrogen companies has become blunt: show tangible proof, not distant promises. Announcements of intent fade quickly when binding sales remain far off, and early optimism gives way to sober reassessment. As long as flagship projects like the one in Denmark sit waiting for their final approval, any rally in the shares is likely to stay fragile. The recovery only gains real substance when preliminary agreements turn into actual deliveries — and those deliveries turn into cash.
