POET Technologies: AI Photonics Push Gathers Momentum as Production Ramp Approaches

The optics specialist is heading into September with a packed conference calendar, a fresh analyst endorsement, and a balance sheet built to fund the manufacturing scale-up that will define its next chapter.

Shares in POET Technologies climbed 7.0 percent to €6.68 in German trading on Friday, extending a week-long recovery that has been fuelled by a combination of upcoming industry appearances and a ratings upgrade from the analyst community. The stock remains roughly 6.2 percent below its 200-day moving average of €7.12, a reminder that the bounce comes after a bruising stretch for the equity.

A Key Week in Shenzhen

Management is preparing to showcase its technology at two significant industry gatherings in Shenzhen over the coming days. The company will present at the International Optoelectronics Exposition (CIOE 2026), running from September 9 through 11, as well as the Information Optics Communication conference (IFOC 2026) on September 7 and 8.

The presentations will zero in on integrating high-performance laser sources for AI and machine-learning connectivity — the bandwidth-hungry segment that has become the industry’s primary growth engine. Dr. Mo Jinyu, Senior Vice President, is slated to discuss technological approaches designed to satisfy the enormous data-throughput demands of modern AI applications. CEO Suresh Venkatesan, meanwhile, plans to detail manufacturing progress and the specialized wafer-level packaging processes developed for hyperscale data centers.

These conferences carry particular weight for POET. They function as a barometer of commercial readiness for new photonics solutions, and a strong showing could help validate the company’s positioning in the optical interconnect market.

Analyst Endorsement Adds Fuel

The operational news flow has been complemented by a shift in sentiment from the sell-side. Media reports indicate the stock was upgraded from “Hold” to “Buy” on Tuesday, with analysts pointing to an attractive valuation following the sharp pullback of previous months. The upgrade rests on the view that the fundamental growth drivers in the photonics market remain intact, underscored by the 112 percent year-over-year revenue increase reported roughly three weeks ago.

Market participants see the combination of triple-digit revenue growth and AI-driven demand as a foundation for a sustainable bottom in the share price, even if the equity has yet to reclaim its longer-term trend levels.

The Financial Picture

The company’s second-quarter results, released in mid-August, painted a picture of steady operational progress. Revenue climbed 112 percent year-over-year to $569,925, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of sequential top-line growth. The net loss narrowed slightly to $11.3 million, or $0.07 per share, compared with the first quarter.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying POET Technologies?

That trajectory is supported by a formidable liquidity position. POET closed the quarter with $796.3 million in cash and short-term investments, bolstered by a $400 million capital raise completed in May. Management intends to direct these reserves toward expanding wafer production capacity and accelerating the light-source business.

The production roadmap calls for substantial deliveries of qualification units to begin in the second half of 2026, with an ambitious target of up to one million units per month by the end of 2027. Management has also signaled that further announcements are forthcoming this month, though details remain subject to existing confidentiality agreements.

Management Reshuffle and Strategic Decisions

Supporting the scale-up effort is a strengthened leadership team. Dr. Sandeep Kumar joined as Chief Operating Officer in May, bringing more than 18 years of experience from Silicon Labs, where he oversaw global manufacturing and supply-chain operations. His appointment came with an incentive package of 410,397 restricted stock units.

The board has also seen recent changes. Dr. Bardia Pezeshki and Jean F. Rankin came on board roughly a month ago, while Jean-Louis Malinge stepped down for personal reasons. Pezeshki, a founder of Avicena Tech and Kaiam, brings deep expertise in optical communications; Rankin adds decades of executive experience from LSI Corporation and AT&T.

In a notable strategic decision, the board concluded in mid-August that relocating the corporate domicile to the United States would not be pursued at this time, determining the move was not in the company’s best interest. The board also approved the allocation of over 2.45 million RSUs to executives.

A Stock Still Finding Its Footing

Despite the operational momentum, the equity has displayed technical weakness in recent sessions. The shares trade roughly 12 percent below their 200-day average of €7.10, and observers have logged 13 insider sell transactions totaling approximately $3.8 million over the past 90 days, with no reported purchases during that window.

Still, the stock sits about 96 percent above its 52-week low of €3.40, reflecting substantial relative strength over the past year. With the conference presentations imminent and qualification deliveries slated to begin, investors now face a waiting game — the coming months will reveal whether the production timeline holds and whether the AI photonics opportunity translates into the commercial scale the valuation implies.
