D-Wave Quantum’s 15-Second Proof Point Arrives Just in Time for a Nasdaq Reset

The quantum computing sector has spent years asking investors to take its promises on faith. D-Wave Quantum is now trying a different approach: showing its work.

The company closed the week at EUR 15.78, up 10.55% over seven trading days, as two developments converged to pull the stock off its lows. But the bounce masks a brutal stretch that has left shareholders nursing steep losses and waiting on a pivotal earnings report due August 6.

A Telecom Win With Measurable Results

The centerpiece of the recent rally is an expanded agreement with AT&T, which has been using D-Wave’s annealing systems to tackle real-world network optimization. The headline number: a complex routing problem that previously consumed roughly an hour of compute time now resolves in under 15 seconds.

That’s not a lab demonstration. AT&T has signed on to deploy the technology across technician dispatch and traffic management, while weaving it into existing AI tools. For D-Wave, the deal offers something its marketing materials never could — a marquee customer from the traditional economy attesting to concrete efficiency gains.

The commercial push is underpinned by the Advantage2 system, now broadly available with more than 4,400 qubits. Unlike gate-based quantum computers that remain years away from stability, D-Wave’s specialized annealing approach targets the near-term problems: logistics and supply chain optimization.

A Nasdaq Move With a Fresh Analyst Endorsement

The AT&T momentum coincided with a listing change. Since July 27, D-Wave shares have traded on the Nasdaq rather than the NYSE, with CEO Alan Baratz ringing the opening bell. The shift is designed to boost visibility among technology-focused institutional investors.

Benchmark initiated coverage around the same time with a “Buy” rating and a $30 price target. The firm points to D-Wave’s dual-track strategy — developing both annealing and gate-model systems — as a differentiator against pure-play specialists, and cites the sector’s growing commercial maturity.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

The Numbers That Temper the Optimism

For all the positive catalysts, the chart tells a more complicated story. The stock remains down 30.38% since January and 23.72% over the past month. It sits 59% below its October 2025 high of EUR 38.48, with the pullback trimming market capitalization to EUR 5.80 billion. The shares are trading 41.80% above their year low of EUR 11.12, hit in late March.

Technical indicators suggest a market in limbo. The RSI of 45.3 points to neither overbought nor oversold conditions, while annualized volatility of 97.41% underscores just how risky this trade remains. The recent advance hints at possible bottoming action, but the stock has yet to reclaim anything close to its former highs.

The August 6 Reckoning

The next test arrives with second-quarter earnings on August 6. Analysts project revenue of roughly $4.02 million and a per-share loss of about $0.08.

The focus will be on whether the order book momentum can translate into recognized revenue. D-Wave reported bookings exceeding $30 million in January alone — a year-over-year surge of 1,994% that grabbed the market’s attention. The question now is whether that pace continued into the second quarter and whether the company’s cash burn rate is sustainable.

The Gap Between Consensus and Reality

Wall Street’s consensus price target of EUR 32.12 implies more than double the current share price. That gap captures the fundamental tension at the heart of this stock: analysts believe in the long-term structural shift quantum computing could bring to enterprise operations, while the market remains unconvinced D-Wave can deliver the operational results to justify the vision.

One earnings report is unlikely to close that divide. But the August 6 release will offer the clearest signal yet on whether spectacular bookings growth is finally maturing into a recurring revenue model — or whether D-Wave remains what it has been for months: a high-risk bet on the future of computing, momentarily buoyed by a telecom win and a fresh exchange listing.
