In a powerful statement of commitment to its grooming division, Procter & Gamble is channeling nearly $1 billion into a new global headquarters and innovation center for its Gillette brand. The facility, slated for South Boston, represents the single largest investment Gillette has ever made in the city.
A Consolidated Hub for Future Growth
The strategic move aims to consolidate the brand’s operations and reinforce Boston as its worldwide innovation base. The planned building at 232 A Street will bring commercial activities, research, and development together under one roof across approximately 30,000 square meters. Gary Coombe, CEO of P&G-Gillette, emphasized the company’s long-term vision to shape this location as a cornerstone for the brand’s future.
This investment is part of a broader $1.5 billion capital expenditure program across Massachusetts. Alongside the new headquarters, P&G is expanding its manufacturing footprint at its Andover plant. A new production facility covering about 18,600 square meters is under construction there for blades, razors, packaging, and direct shipping, with operations commencing in April 2025.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Procter & Gamble?
Streamlining Operations for Efficiency
A significant operational shift will accompany these developments. The relocation of manufacturing from South Boston to the expanded Andover site is scheduled to begin in 2026. This creates an integrated network for research and production within the state, laying a robust operational foundation for the next phase of the brand’s evolution.
The scale of this commitment clearly signals the strategic priority P&G places on the Gillette brand within its core portfolio. By establishing this concentrated hub in Massachusetts, the consumer goods giant is not only streamlining its operations but also communicating to investors where it sees substantial growth potential.
