Strategy’s Bitcoin Accumulation Continues Unabated Amid Market Volatility

The publicly-traded software firm Strategy, now recognized as the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has executed another significant purchase of the cryptocurrency. The company acquired an additional 3,015 Bitcoin last week, spending approximately $204 million. This move coincides with its seventh consecutive monthly increase to the dividend on its Series A preferred shares, highlighting a dual-track financial strategy playing out against a backdrop of considerable stock price swings.

Unwavering Commitment to Crypto Strategy

Strategy’s latest acquisition, conducted between February 23 and March 1, saw an average purchase price of about $67,700 per Bitcoin. This marks the company’s 101st recorded buy and extends its streak of weekly accumulations to ten. The funding for this purchase was primarily sourced from the sale of common stock, which generated roughly $229.9 million. An additional $7.1 million came from the placement of Series A preferred stock, which was notably sold below its par value—a detail that may signal some investor caution regarding this offering.

A Colossal Treasury and Unrealized Losses

As of March 1, Strategy’s formidable Bitcoin treasury has grown to 720,737 tokens. The total investment now stands at $54.77 billion, reflecting an average entry price of approximately $75,985 per coin. This holding represents over 3.4% of Bitcoin’s total finite supply of 21 million. At the current market price near $65,500, the company’s position is underwater, resulting in substantial unrealized losses that weigh on its valuation, despite a long-term bullish outlook on the digital asset.

Stock Surge Fueled by Short Squeeze

On March 2, Strategy’s common stock jumped 5.9%. This gain was propelled by a recovery in Bitcoin’s price, which rebounded from a weekend low of $63,038 to nearly $69,615. The upward move was amplified by a short squeeze. With a short interest hovering around 14%, Strategy ranks among the market’s most heavily shorted stocks. As the share price began to climb, short sellers were forced to cover their positions, creating additional buying pressure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Strategy?

Nevertheless, the stock has declined 12.5% since the start of the year. Trading at $137.49, it remains roughly 70% below its 52-week high of $455.90, reached in July 2025.

Consecutive Dividend Hikes for Preferred Shares

Alongside its crypto activity, Strategy announced another increase in the dividend for its variable-rate Series A preferred shares (STRC). The annualized rate for March was raised to 11.50%, a 25-basis-point increase from the previous month. This is the seventh sequential hike since July 2025, a clear effort by management to bolster appeal for income-focused investors while the common equity exhibits high volatility. Dividend payments across all preferred share lines are scheduled for March 31.

A Clear, High-Stakes Trajectory

Strategy continues to pursue its Bitcoin accumulation strategy with singular focus. The weekly purchases have become routine, and market reactions to the announcements themselves have largely diminished. The primary driver for the stock’s performance remains the price trajectory of Bitcoin itself, which is currently facing headwinds. As the holder of the largest public Bitcoin reserve, Strategy serves as a key barometer for institutional sentiment toward cryptocurrency. It also stands as a highly speculative equity, prone to extreme price movements based on the fortunes of its digital asset holdings.
